Welcome to Heraklion

Where Crete's story began

Heraklion is the centre of Crete in every sense — its biggest city, its main airport and port, and the place where Europe's first great civilisation flourished. The Palace of Knossos is just a short ride from town.

Beyond the city lie vineyards and olive groves, traditional villages, the beaches of the north coast and Matala in the south. Sail to Dia island, taste local wines or explore the mountains on an off-road safari.
